Toa Payoh, Singapore — Probate
My father passed away without a Will, and none of us had any idea where to start. Rachel explained the Letters of Administration process in plain language and was patient with every question we had. The estate was wrapped up in about ten weeks. I was expecting it to be much more stressful than it turned out to be.

Queenstown, Singapore — Consumer Dispute
I had an ongoing dispute with a renovation contractor who left the job half-finished. Kelvin helped me understand what I was actually entitled to under the contract and wrote a very clear letter to the contractor. They responded within a week and we settled before the SCT filing was even needed. SGD 420 well spent.

Bishan, Singapore — Non-Profit Registration
We wanted to set up a community support group but weren't sure whether to go the society route or a CLG. Serene sat with us and walked through the practical differences — not just the legal ones. We chose a society, registration came through in about six weeks, and the governance handbook they provided has been genuinely useful since.

Clementi, Singapore — Probate
My mother left a Will, but there was a property involved which I thought would complicate things significantly. The team at Mivella explained that it was actually fairly standard and handled all the conveyancing correspondence. They kept me updated at every stage. The fixed fee made it easy to plan financially during an already difficult period.

Tampines, Singapore — Consumer Dispute
I bought a laptop that stopped working within a month. The retailer kept deflecting. Kelvin's assessment letter changed the tone of the conversation immediately. We ended up with a full replacement within two weeks of them receiving it. The process was clearer than I expected — I had worried I would end up in a drawn-out tribunal hearing.

Jurong East, Singapore — Non-Profit Registration
Our group had been operating informally for years. Registering formally felt daunting until we spoke with Mivella. Serene was straightforward about what the registration would and would not change for us — that honesty helped us make the decision confidently. The constitution she drafted was clear and practical, not a wall of impenetrable language.

Case Studies
Three matters, in some detail
The situation
A family in Toa Payoh was managing their father's estate. He had passed away intestate — without a Will — and had assets held across multiple banks. The family was unsure whether probate was required and, if so, how the assets would be distributed.
What we did
We confirmed that Letters of Administration were required given the estate size. Filed the application at the Family Justice Courts, identified and valued all bank accounts and CPF nominations, corresponded with three financial institutions, and settled a small outstanding liability from the estate before distributing the balance to the beneficiaries in line with the Intestate Succession Act.
The outcome
Estate fully administered in eleven weeks. All three beneficiaries received their distributions and a full estate distribution report. The family noted they had expected the process to take considerably longer based on what they had read online.
The situation
A resident in Queenstown had paid a contractor SGD 8,400 for interior renovation work. The contractor completed approximately 60% of the agreed scope and then became uncontactable. The client had a signed quotation but no formal contract.
What we did
Assessed the claim based on the signed quotation, photographs taken during the work, and WhatsApp correspondence between the client and contractor. Issued a written claim assessment and a formal demand letter specifying the outstanding amount and the deadline for response before SCT filing.
The outcome
The contractor responded to the demand letter within nine days and agreed to return SGD 3,400 — representing the unperformed portion of the contract. The client decided to accept the settlement rather than proceed to the tribunal. Total elapsed time from engagement to settlement: three weeks.
The situation
A group of eight volunteers running a seniors welfare programme in Bishan wanted to formalise their activities so they could open a dedicated bank account, accept small donations, and apply for community grants. They had been informally active for four years.
What we did
Advised the group that a society registration under the Societies Act was the most appropriate structure for their scale and activities. Drafted a constitution reflecting their objectives and governance model, prepared the application to the Registrar of Societies, and addressed one query from the registry regarding the group's membership eligibility criteria.
The outcome
Registration confirmed in seven weeks. The group received a governance handbook tailored to their structure, and subsequently opened a bank account and submitted a first funding application to a community foundation. The committee chairperson noted that the governance handbook answered questions that came up repeatedly in the months after registration.
